Placer Repertory Theatre

MISSION:

The mission of Placer Repertory Theater is to offer educational and quality-of-life enriching professional performing arts and cultural programs relevant to the people of Placer County, while supporting area organizations and acting as an economic engine for the area. Goal: We seek economic growth through the incubation and development of voices and works reflective of the community we serve, as we champion partnership and cultural exploration across a breadth of disciplines within the arts, culture and humanities. We seek and support underrepresented voices within our community for new work incubation, artistic development and networking.

HISTORY/INFORMATION:

The Placer Repertory Theater feasibility study in 2019 led to the formation of Placer Repertory Theater in January 2020. By March 2020, the new play My Jekyll & Hyde had been written and a season conceived, and public announcements were imminent when it was determined that due to COVID 19, the U.S. population needed to shelter in place. Placer Rep considered the challenge and turned 2020 season into an awareness opportunity. Placer Rep proceeded to pivot toward digital recordings and livestreamed performances. Placer Rep has four program areas: Talent Development (to bridge the gap from pre-professional training and experiences to professional employment), Professional Growth (artistic opportunities and continuing education), Community & Economic Enrichment, and PRAA (Placer Rep Access for All). Placer Rep produced six live performance events in 2021, won 5 regional performing arts awards from Broadway World & Gold Country Media, and received numerous grants. Placer Rep annually performs a new work based upon the history and culture of the Placer County area. In 2021, the production was known as New Beginnings, about the Rocklin & Roseville railroad roundhouses. In 2022, the new work is the dark comedy Ghosts of Placer County, which includes history from ten different population areas in Placer County as it shares 30 years of a dysfunctional but loving archetypal relationship between a mother and daughter.
